![]() ![]() It felt like Nintendo wanted to try something different with DK 3, sadly it wasn’t as good or memorable. Perhaps it was the fact that we were playing a less than interesting hero or that the spraying mechanics were not nearly as fun as the platforming. This arcade only game was an interesting concept, but really lacked the charm of the previous two Donkey Kong games. Thankfully, it has great sound design for a mobile platform and the level design is fun and classic Donkey Kong. While this game has the charm and look of a Donkey Kong game, the simplistic mechanics and underwhelming level of difficulty make this a mostly forgettable title. Not to mention they are simple ports and offer really nothing particularly special to the esteemed franchise or the brand it created. Due to the Game Boy’s capabilities, these are severely lacking those vibrant and gorgeous colors that the SNES versions have. Speaking of underwhelming, these mobile iterations of the classing Donkey Kong Country series are not exactly great. Offering nothing new or interesting, the game simply recycles the same mechanics from the previous games. I’m sure by the end of this list you’ll be sick of seeing this mini-series, however Tipping Stars is the worst. While there is no doubting the Game & Watches importance, their Donkey Kong versions just felt lackluster. There is no doubt this title was trying ride off the heels of the far superior Diddy Kong Racing, however, this is nothing more than a boring, shallow version of that game.Īll three of these Game & Watch games are a landmark for mobile gaming, however, they were hardly as entertaining as their full arcade cabinet doppler gangers. Yet, if we had to judge which Kong games were the best, these are the ones we’d spend all our hard-earned bananas on.ĭK Barrel Blast stands as an example of what happens when you try to cash in on a previously successful idea. There are also some titles we are going to just group up into one such as Donkey Kong Land and the Donkey Kong Game & Watch titles. Retro Studios' recent releases have been balancing that out, thanks to them taking over the series that was originally created by Rare. ![]() Some titles in the catalog have aged quite poorly and some of the early portable offerings weren't that good to begin with. While none of the games in the series have been truly bad, Donkey Kong Country has definitely had its fair share of ups and downs with regards to quality. That's an impressive feat, even if the series took an extended hiatus during the 2000s. With the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Nintendo Switch, the series is still going strong 20 years later. Fans were happy to put up with the intense difficulty and challenge due to the amazing graphics (at the time) and the enjoyable 2D platforming. Gamers have been breaking their controllers over the Donkey Kong Country series ever since 1994. ![]()
